If the technician arrives in an unmarked truck or van, consider this a red flag and cancel the appointment. Almost all legitimate and reputable contractors use official vehicles – never personal vehicles.
Diagnosing invisible issues – Be alert if a contractor starts pointing out “bad parts”, yet you don’t seem to be experiencing any issues with your HVAC system. It may be tricky to tell whether he’s trying to scam you, but it wouldn’t hurt to do a little online research or get a second opinion from other trusted heating and air conditioning companies before having the work done.

Offering overpriced parts and labor – HVAC components aren’t something you shop for frequently, if at all, so it can be difficult to tell if something is overpriced. Always make it a point to do your own research and get quotes from multiple contractors before signing a contract.
