Halloween Decorating: HVAC Safety Reminders for Homeowners

Decorations make Halloween a more “spooktacular” occasion. While decorating is a thrilling task, you shouldn’t neglect prioritizing your safety. Always be careful when decorating near components of your HVAC system to avoid unnecessary damage and save yourself from having to pay for costly repairs.

Here are some safety reminders from one of the area’s leading air conditioning companies

Don’t place candles near your HVAC unit. Candles add ambiance to your home and help give it that creepy feel. However, if you’re not careful, they can damage your heating and cooling system. Keep flammable items away from your equipment at all costs. Instead of conventional candles, consider using battery-operated ones, glow sticks or even flashlights.

Decor shouldn’t block your vents. Vents must be open to allow for proper air circulation in your home. Obstructing them with decorations can compromise the performance of your HVAC system. Blocking the vents will make your unit work harder to reach your preferred temperature, resulting in increased energy costs.

Avoid decorating or placing items near your outdoor unit. Like vents, it’s best to make sure your outdoor HVAC unit is unobstructed. As much as possible, avoid placing decor on or around the equipment. Decorations, especially smaller items, can get stuck inside the unit, causing damage and reducing its performance. This fall, it’s also a good idea to have your equipment inspected and maintained to ensure your home stays cozy and warm throughout the cold winter months. As one of the area’s most experienced furnace companies, you can count on All Seasons, Inc. for all your HVAC needs.

Don’t place decorations on or near your fireplace. When decorating for Halloween, keep decorations away from your fireplace, furnace and open flames. Doing so will help ensure that you and your family stay safe during the spookiest time of the year.
